The Education Fund is making headlines with its innovative contactless deliveries to distance learning students in Miami-Dade County. Miami Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired received funding fromFlorida Blue Foundation for its innovative community program to assist underserved and low-income seniors with low-vision care. The all-inclusive approach, consists of a concentrated community outreach, educational activities, and direct services to increase access to professional eye health care that will improve the quality of life for seniors with low vision who live in indigent neighborhoods. Providing Direct Low Vision Programs to Seniors in Vulnerable Neighborhoods will deliver accessible eye health (functional vision assessments, adaptive aids, and dilated eye exams), fall prevention, and coping strategies related to vision loss.

The Education Fund continues its successful implementation of Food Forests in Schools and now counts with funding from the Environmental Protection Agency. The program has expanded to 51 schools in Miami Dade County and results of the evaluation show improved student nutrition behaviors and attitudes as well as increased science knowledge.

Be Strong International, Inc. is now in its fifth year of continuous funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program reaches thousands of youth and provides them with the tools and resources to engage in health behaviors. The evaluation results point to a successful program that is making a difference in the behaviors and beliefs of the youth reached.

2018

The Key Clubhouse  earned full accreditation from Clubhouse International, the training and accreditation body for more than 320 Clubhouses world-wide. In order to achieve this designation, the Clubhouse demonstrated fidelity to all 37 standards of the evidence-based International Clubhouse model, which promotes mental health recovery and wellness for people living with serious mental illness. This model includes three levels of employment support, an active and engaging work-ordered day, full inclusion of members in decision-making, and a stigma-free, dignified work environment. This accreditation also designates the Key Clubhouse as a best practice as recognized by SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration).

2017

Dr. Lorna Escoffery has been invited to join the Board of Governors of the Stanford Alumni Associates.

Congratulations to the Board, staff, and clients of The Key Clubhouse! Escoffery Consulting recently facilitated a successful strategic planning process that will guide The Key Clubhouse during the next three years. The lead facilitators were Marta Pizarro and Lorna Escoffery.

2016

ABSTI, Inc. received funding from HRSA to implement Project HOPE which is designed to reduce pre-marital sexual activity, teen pregnancy and STIs.  Project HOPE aims to encourage youth to choose an abstinent lifestyle while learning skills to build healthy relationships and self-sufficiency.  ABSTI is implementing Project HOPE in 6 Miami Dade County middle schools mainly serving Hispanic and Black youth. Escoffery Consulting is the evaluator for this project.

The Education Fund received funding from the Health Foundation of South Florida to train school cafeteria managers to create healthy meals using produce from school gardens and for teachers to hold “Cafeteria Teach-Ins” demonstrating healthy table and eating practices. Citicards is providing funding for take home groceries for parents participating in the CNI activities. The ultimate objective of the CNI is to significantly change eating patterns in children and their families in ways that will last a lifetime. Escoffery Consulting continues to be  program evaluator.

2014

Le Jardin Community Center has invited Dr. Escoffery to join their Board of Directors.

Escoffery Consulting Collaborative has been selected to conduct the evaluation of two 21st CCLC programs and the PREP program in Orlando, Florida. Results of the formative evaluations will be available in March and May 2014.

2012/2013

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine was awarded a prestigious and highly competitive NIH award to establish an elite Clinical and Translational Science Institute. Dr. Escoffery provided expertise and writing support to the project leaders. The $20 million award will further the research efforts of the School of Medicine.

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine was awarded a prestigious CFAR award. The CFAR (Center for AIDS Research) will enhance research conducted on HIV/AIDS in South Florida. Dr. Escoffery provided writing and editing services for this successful project under the leadership of Dr. Savita Pahwa.
